Thanks for the great response!! All of the free tickets to see The Monkey Bunch have been claimed.  But see below for another great opportunity for 9-13 year olds...

Downtown Kids??

Tim Horton's and the Guelph Police Services are running an 'Earn a Bike Program' this spring.  The program is open to kid's from 9-13 and there will be 26 bikes in total.  Kids 'earn' these bikes by volunteering for 30 hours during a 3 day stretch from July 3-6.  Their first clean-up event will be River Run Park after the Canada Day Celebrations (running around 8 hours a day, 8am-4pm).  The Guelph Police Service will be hosting an orientation night a week or two before the ‘camp’ to prep parents/youths for their week. The parents are responsible for ensuring their children arrive everyday dressed to work.  Children who require bus transportation will be provided with bus passes for the week.

If you know of any kids who might be interested, please email guelphdna@gmail.com with the following information;
Child’s Name:  Adult’s Name:  Child’s Age:  Phone Number:  Address:  Helmet Size:  Bike Size

Entries must be received by March 9, 2012 for consideration.

Thanks!

November 14, 2011 --

Thanks to all who came out for the launch of Fourth Fridays last month. It was COLD out, but good to see some familiar downtown faces braving the weather. And double thanks to Jen and Evan, who gave their evening volunteering with DNA that night.

We are again looking for a few good folks to volunteer for the next installment of Fourth Fridays, which happens this November 25 from 7-10pm. Please contact guelphdna@gmail.com if you are interested, and could give an hour or so. It will be fun, and a great way to meet some downtown neighbours.

Our next neighbourhood event it planned to coincide with the December Fourth Friday, on Dec 23. We are hoping the City hall rink will be open by then, so we can have a skates and cider party! Bring your woolies!

Transit Terminal Update

Hot off the press, Guelph's sparkling new Transit Terminal is due to open May 1, 2012. What do you think St Georges Square should do with itself once the buses are gone?? Email ideas to guelphdna@gmail.com

October 12, 2011 --

Fourth Fridays starts this month, Friday Oct 28 7-10pm. DNA is looking for volunteers to act as street guides/ambassadors/vitalizers for this monthly event. We are hoping to fill two, 1 1/2 hour shifts each month with as many downtown folks as we can. As a volunteer, you would be responsible for providing event information, and directing people to event locations. If you're interested in volunteering, please contact Kia at guelphdna@gmail.com

If you're interested in participating as an artist/community group/individual, or by providing space as a venue, go to fourthfridaysguelph.ca

October 6th, 2011 --

A big thank you to everyone who came out to dinner on Monday night. I hope everyone got a chance to meet someone new from their neighbourhood, and to learn a bit about what we do here at DNA.

I'd also like extend our thanks to Artisanale, for donating their (great) space for the event, to the Red Brick Cafe for donating their delicious baked goods for our dessert, and to Market Fresh for providing the prize for our draw ($30 gift card).

And now, the moment you've all been waiting for, the winner of the draw for the $30 Market Fresh gift card, is Chloe Levine, of Wyndham St. Congratulations, Chloe! Thanks for coming out.

New City of Guelph Noise By-Law

Did you know that the City of Guelph is rewriting the Noise By-Law? A report recommending changes to the existing By-Law is due to go to City Council Mid October, 2011 and among these changes is the creation of a ‘mixed-use’ zone (previously there was only ‘residential’, and ‘other’ which included industrial areas and DOWNTOWN?!). Downtown would become a ‘mixed-use’ zone, and would have noise guidelines similar to residential areas. This is good news for downtown residents! The City is still accepting comments on the proposed changes to the By-Law, and these can include general complaints about noise downtown. Please email comments to doug.godfrey@guelph.ca , until Oct 4.

Also of note, if you do have noise issues PLEASE call Guelph Police at 519-824-1212 and they will dispatch By-Law officers (24hours a day) to investigate. All noise complaints must go through Guelph Police to be logged (and this is important, as it helps to make a case for general noise problems downtown).
